NC-EMT Reporter Requirements and Instructions

NC-EMT.com Official Reporter

Requirements

As an Official Reporter you will be submitting News Articles and Events from your area. Since you are representing NC-EMT.com you will need to abide by some simple rules

1. Articles must be in your own words.

2. If you get your information from another source you MUST include that source as follows using this format.

If you are using Plain Text then put this at the very bottom of your article, double spaced after the article

Source: CNN.com

If you know how to use HTML markup then use the following.

<b>Source:</b> <a href="copy and paste link to article"> CNN</a>

3. Check your spelling and grammar. I would suggest that if you are not a good speller or not good with grammar, write your article in a word processor like MS Word or Word Perfect. Use Spell Checker and Grammar Checker.

4. Use one font and one size except for title. You may use bold (if you are using html) to enforce a point.

5. NO FOUL LANGUAGE

Please do not take credit for the work of others.

You will be given Story Admin permission rights on the site. (DON'T ABUSE IT)

As an Official Reporter you will be presented with this (below) for submitting articles.

Instructions

1. Give it a catchy title.

2. Insure that your Topic is Fire News or Fire Events

3. Leave the checkmark in Show Topic Icon.

4. You can either leave comments enabled or you may disable comments if you don't want people to comment on your article.

5. Insure that the mode of your article is Not Featured (I will determine whether an article is Featured or not

6. A word on Intro Text vs. Body Text. Intro Text is what people see if they do nothing. It is normally used to wet the appetite of the reader and they would need to click Read More to read the rest of the article. If your article is particularly long then put a few paragraphs in the Intro Text and use the Body Text area for the rest. I think a good rule of thumb is if your article is more than a couple of paragraphs (3 or 4 may be ok depending on length) long then use the Body Text area. (common since prevails)

7. Post Mode: Plain Text or HTML. HTML is much more versatile. Plain text allows you to type without having to worry about formatting. However you can't do anything creative.

Including Pictures

You can include up to 5 pictures in your article. (HTML Mode only)

In the Intro or Body of your article you type in [image(number)] ex [image3] if you want to specify right or left then add [image3_right].

Submitting

1. Do not change the group access.

2. You may change Permissions depending on your audience. Default is Owner has Read and Edit rights, Group has Read rights only (this may change), Members can Read Only and Anonymous can Read Only. If you only want Registered Users to be able to read your article then uncheck Anonymous. Most of your articles should be readable by everyone.

4. Currently I am not recommending that you give everyone in the group the ability to edit your article. We'll play this by ear and it may change in the future.
